Hollyoaks Jamie Lomas Presents Freddie Flintoffs Bat

Zeus PR’s Anthea Fosti was bowled over when she won a bat signed by Freddie Fintoff and presented by TV Star Jamie Lomas, in Abbey College Manchester’s 20th Birthday auction held at Players, Hale Barnes, Altrincham on 27 May.

Anthea won the item with bid of £450. The auction monies will go towards the evening proceeds for two nominated charities, the Haiti Appeal and St Francis House. The PR Agency has been providing retained PR support for the College since November 2008.

NW social housing consultancy, Pennington Choices has commissioned Zeus PR to communicate its expanding offer, and consolidate its profile amongst its target market of local authorities and housing associations.

The team will be working closely with the senior management to build further awareness of Pennington Choices -  promoting its specialist social housing services such as procuring and managing of construction projects, financial consultancy, energy and gas consultancy and certification, interim management and stock condition surveys.

To maximise publicity for Abbey College’s recent art challenge, Zeus PR invited BBC Manchester celebrity Beccy Want to attend a presentation morning for its art students on 17 March.

The students were tasked with creating sculptures out of ‘raw ingredients’ through the use of a range of mediums. The topical art challenge was set as a part of the student’s curriculum and the project is now complete with seven eco-friendly masterpieces.

As increasingly newspapers and trade magazines are relying on businesses to submit their own photographs to accompany stories, Zeus PR advises on what makes ‘a good press photo’.

If a story is of key importance to your business, we would always recommend booking a freelance press photographer for an hour’s shoot. They know exactly what newspapers and the trade press are looking for and for the sake of around £150, it is usually money well spent.

However, for smaller stories, or where a budget is not available there are some simple guidelines which you should follow:-

• Always take the image digitally, and email to the journalist in high resolution (usually minimum of 300dpi in jpeg format works best)
• Keep the shot simple – what is ‘the story’?
• Focus on the subject and ‘don’t go too wide’ by including unnecessary background
• Don’t be afraid of ‘close up’ shots, they can be very impactful
• Keep in mind your audience, for corporate press for example a Facebook style-image is not going to work
• Don’t be too overt with branding, keep logos to a minimum otherwise the image may be seen as ‘too commercial’ for editorial inclusion
•  You can be creative, for charity themed stories for instance an action shot of the ‘fundraising in action’ is often more interesting than a cheque presentation photo
